There is more to life than stuffing a mushroom, someone once said.  Like reading, I’ll say.  In fact, my idea of an ideal day would be to get to the British Library for 10 am, read until 2pm, have a boozy lunch at that wonderful Italian place in Camden, then head off to the London Review Bookshop; because a trip to London can’t be complete without popping in to the LRB.

But like the author of that favourite poem of mine wrote,

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I offered myself that ideal day for one of my birthdays a while ago, and what fun was had!  In fact, as I write about this now, I am thinking of turning it into a little tradition.

I thank you for stopping by, and I hope you stop by often so that we can read together, recommend books to each other and have a conversation over a virtual glass of wine, or coffee; the choice of beverage shall be dependent upon the time of day.
